In June, 1931, the population was 630 residents. On August 3, 1934, city council passed a resolution declaring Southside Place an incorporated city. T.L. Evans, the first mayor, and five council members were elected.

Today, Southside Place operates under a council-manager form of government. Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at Town Center. City services include police, fire, municipal court, building construction, water, wastewater, sanitation, and parks.

Colonel Raymond Pearson established the Spirit of 1776 Ranch on what would become Nassau Bay. In 1962, a community was planned which would be an exclusive residential and commercial area emphasizing its pioneers and at a then-staggering cost of $49 million. In 1962 construction of Nassau Bay began and the first residents moved to Nassau Bay in 1964; its initial population was 400. It was developed by Ernest W. Roe Company, with Thompson McCleary of Caudill, Rowlett, and Scott providing architectural services and Nassau Bay Development Associates establishing the development. The name was chosen by the developers because of the tropical feeling it generated. At the time, NASA was moving personnel from several areas in the United States with a high quality of life, including California and notably, Florida. In 1968 the community had 2,979 residents. The city incorporated in 1970. The population was 6,702 in 1980, 4,526 in 1982, 4,506 in 1991, and 4,170 in 2000.

Born as a weekend playground in 1956, Jamaica Beach prospered during the booming economy of its early years, only to falter in the early 70’s when the founding corporation suffered bankruptcy. But many of the early homeowners loved living by the sea, and with grit and determination they fought their tribulations, pooled their varied resources, and by working together, formed the foundation of the community we enjoy today. Their efforts culminated in 1975 with the incorporation of Jamaica Beach as a General Law City in the State of Texas.

Jacinto City's history dates back to Nov. 1, 1841, when the State of Texas issued a land grant to James Wyatt Oates. In 1866, his grandson, Charles Oates, built the first home in what is now Jacinto City. Whittier Elementary School curently sits on that site. At that time, ranching and logging were the predominant industries in the area. Once the Houston Ship Channel was developed and oil refining took root in the area, things started to grow rapidly. In 1917 a little dirt road called Market Street was covered with shell. In the 1020's Holland Avenue was extended to go from Clinton Drive to Market Street.
